My Approach

Dustin Vander Haar is a licensed therapist with over 20 years of experience in mental health and social services, supporting children, adolescents, and families across a wide range of clinical settings. His career began in residential treatment working directly with youth and has included roles as a therapist, clinical supervisor, and program leader—experiences that deeply inform his thoughtful, grounded approach to individual therapy today.

Dustin’s private practice focuses on the healthy emotional development of boys and young men, with particular attention to anger management, emotional regulation, impulse control, and building effective coping strategies. He works with clients who may struggle to express emotions safely, feel overwhelmed by frustration or stress, or experience challenges at home, school, or in relationships. His approach is practical, skill-based, and relational—helping clients better understand their emotions while developing tools they can use in everyday life.
Drawing from years of clinical practice in outpatient, residential, school-linked, and intensive mental health programs, Dustin integrates evidence-based interventions with a calm, collaborative therapeutic style. He believes meaningful change happens when clients feel understood, respected, and actively involved in their own growth. Sessions are structured but flexible, balancing skill-building with space for reflection and connection.

Dustin holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, an MBA, and a Master of Divinity, reflecting his commitment to whole-person care that honors emotional, relational, and values-based dimensions of well-being. Whether working with adolescents navigating big emotions or young men seeking healthier ways to manage stress and anger, Dustin creates a supportive environment where growth feels achievable and hope feels realistic.
